About

I was born in Victoria, Australia in 1988. It should come to no surprise to the people that know me to know that my birth wasn’t quite according to plan: I was originally intended to be born on February 29th, but luckily due to me being too lazy, decided to just hang around a bit more and come out a week later, on March 6th. However, due to my ingenius planning, I forgot to take into account the doctor would be away surfing. What ended up happening was my mum went into labour in a hospital, and a midwife came in just in time to catch me just as I popped out. And behold – I was alive!

When I was young, I remember nothing about wanting to do something in the multimedia field. I remember once failing a scholarship because one of the questions was ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’. My reponse was ‘A marine biologist, a vet or a pest exterminator’. A little conflict of interest there? Maybe.

After seeing the movie Jaws and TV movie The Beast, the occupation of being a marine biologist ammused me. The idea of exploring the ocean depths, discovering new species, and the possibility of something new every day…seemed like the perfect occupation.

Then along came the end of Year 10 in 2004, and I was picking subjects for Year 11. Some friends of mine were talking about doing a Multimedia course within the school. The course descriptionj was along the lines of learning about photo editing, filming and animating. At the time, the only form of animating I was remotely capable of was using Microsoft Powerpoint to animate basic shapes moving around. Although my parents were against it, and thought I would hate it because my drawing skills were less then good, I managed to convince them, and so began my Certificate II in Multimedia.

In 2005, I learnt the very basics of photoshop, flash, director and iMovie. My iconic penguin was developed that year for a toothpaste commercial I created in director, ‘Steve’, as I have dubbed him. In that year I also recorded the at-the-time infamouse ‘Mizzi Dance’.

In 2006, after the two years of work and effort, I was awarded the Year 12 VET Multimedia Award, which came as a major surprise to myself and my parents. Now, it was at this time I was also considering what to study in 2007. I had been looking forward to studying marine biology, but the sudden interst in filming was also intriguing. Attending a few open days for filming courses, I was intimidated by some of the people around me, talking about things I didn’t have a clue about. Torn between two choices, I decided to take a break from schooling, work for a year, then decide.

By the end of 2007, I had attended open days for multimedia courses and the Deakin University at Warnambool for marine biology. I had recieved ‘A’ letters from each interview I went to, so the choices were still open for both categories. In the end, I picked what I knew from experience from what I’ve enjoyed from study.

In 2008, I completed the Cert IV in New Media.

The studies continue….
